Yumi Golay, Lyric Sopran

studied at the National University for Fine Arts and Music in Tokyo (her native town). She was formally trained as a classical singer and received her diploma as a Music Professor from the University. Thereafter she was awarded a Rotary Foundation scholarship, which gave her the opportunity to continue her vocal studies at the Conservatoire in Geneva where she received her Concert diploma. Further studies took her to Milan, Stuttgart and Salzburg.

After studying at the International Opera Studio, Zurich, she started performing on stage for the Opera Houses in Zurich and in Lucerne, as well as for the Swiss Gastspieloper. Her activity for Concerts, including a repertoire of religious music, oratorios and recitals takes her to all parts of Switzerland, Austria, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, USA and in Japan.

Classical concerts on Television and radio broadcasts in Switzerland and abroad have made Yumi Golay a widely acclaimed singer internationally. The following series should be particularly mentioned: “Meditation” conducted by Armin Brunner: Haydn’s “Creation” with Günter Wallraff, Orator; Bach’s “Magnificat”, with Luise Rinser, Orator; and Mozart’s “Coronation Mass”, with Hans Küng, Orator.

Yumi Golay has recorded four CDs: “Ave Maria”, “Tanki Ponki” (classical songs from Japan ), “Lullabies from around the world” and "A bouquet of songs" (two live recordings at concerts in Tokyo, in 2004 and 2007).

Yumi Golay’s repertoire covers all epochs, but she has a special affinity for chamber music and recitals. Her recitals inspire a broad audience. The artist lives in the region of Zurich-Schaffhausen .
